This course is aimed at training students to:

• Consolidate previously acquired skills in the intervention among critical and chronic patients;

• Update their knowledge on new respiratory intervention protocols in acute and chronic respiratory failure;

• Evaluate and analyse strategies of Respiratory Physiotherapy addressed to respiratory dysfunctions in acute and chronic patients;

• Analyse the findings of the assessment in order to determine the capacities of the patient with acute and chronic respiratory failure;

• Understand the biological, physical and behavioural sciences that support the acute and chronic respiratory failure;

• Analyse and critically assess the evidence on non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) and criteria for success and failure;

• Analyse, develop and understand different models of intervention in Physiotherapy in acute and chronic respiratory failure;

• Contribute for the development of Respiratory Physiotherapy in the area of acute and chronic respiratory failure through the creation, implementation and diffusion of new knowledge and new practices;

• Analyse the psychometric features of different measures and assessment instruments in the area of acute and chronic respiratory failure

Who should apply:

1. Owners of a Bachelor of Science degree or other legally equivalent diploma in Health or allied areas;

2. Owners of a foreign academic degree in Health or allied areas, awarded after completion of an undergraduate programme organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process and issued by a State adhering to this Process;

3. Owners of a foreign academic degree that might be recognized, by the Technical and Scientific Council, as fulfilling the objectives of the Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy of ESTSP;

4. Owners of an academic, scientific or professional resume that might be recognized, by the Technical and Scientific Council, as a certification of capacity to attend this study programme
